Thought for the Day ~ By Lisa Scott Life Coach

Always be present……..as humans we have always responded to pain and pleasure.  We try to avoid pain…..and realize pleasure as much as we can.  This can mean that we rush the day; push the river, and generally try to interpret the moments of pain by telling our story about them. We resist those moments when we try to resign ourselves to the story.  Surrender means that we surrender to this moment, and allow it to just be.  Because when we try to avoid pain, when we tell our story and label the moment, that is not surrender, it is resistance.  Any time we resist the present moment we are committing ourselves to staying right where we are.  What we resist will persist.

What we resist also gives us great insight into what we must heal.  The behaviour of people who are mean spirited or who don’t like you will bring up your own issues and insecurities.  Perhaps it will trigger your fear of rejection, of not being good enough and you will take things personally.  If only you could allow yourself to be present in all moments then you would realize that nothing lasts forever….that the negative energy will flow away down the river if you don’t push it.  The light within you, will guide, protect, and supply you with everything you need.  Learn to love the process of living.  Love the ups and downs and most importantly love yourself in the moment…..that will allow you to make the shifts that teach you to plug into your own power.  Your value as a human being is driven from the inside……not from your environment.  Don’t give your power away to people and circumstances…….claim it now.

Eckhart Tolle said “Surrender becomes so much easier when you realize the fleeting nature of all experiences and that the world cannot give you anything of lasting value.  You then continue to meet people, to be involved in experiences and activities, but without the wants and fears of the egoic self.  That is to say, you no longer demand that a situation, person, place, or event should satisfy you or make you happy.  Its passing and imperfect nature is allowed to be.  And the miracle is that when you are no longer placing an impossible demand on it, every situation, person, place, or event becomes not only satisfying but also more harmonious and peaceful.”
