Thought for the Day ~ Practice Tough Love

Practice tough love…….there are times in life when we must hold our own feet to the fire.  Too often we take steps to make things better and then as soon as things are just a little better we stop.  We can’t go through life stepping on the gas and then jamming on the brakes.  It gives us living whiplash and we take those closest to us, with us every time.  Our ability to make decisions and then stick to them, is our greatest sign of maturity and wellness.  You see successful people do the things that people who fail, don’t like to do.  They commit to their own well being and when they make decisions they don’t vacillate and complain.  They hang in, and see themselves through the tough times with self-discipline and a vision for the future.

We all have patterns in our lives.  It’s important to be mindful of those patterns especially when our patterns are around our ability to make and keep decisions.  Decision making and the rigour required to stay the course are the skills that separate the wheat from the chaff.  Decision making is about weighing the pros and cons and then making a decision because it is the right thing to do.  True leaders understand this and it is evident in both their business and personal lives.  To finish first, you must first finish.  Persistent people begin their success where most others quit.  Persistence prevails….so don’t quit before you have realized your goals….success could be just around the next corner….

Robin Sharma said  I call the habit of self-discipline “tough love” because getting tough with yourself is actually a very loving gesture.  By being stricter with yourself, you will begin to live life more deliberately, on your own terms rather than simply reacting to life the way a leaf floating in a stream drifts according to the flow of the current on a particular day.  The tougher you are on yourself, the easier life will be on you.  The quality of your life ultimately is shaped by the quality of your choices and decisions.  When you consistently flex your willpower by making those choices that you know are the right ones, rather than the easy ones, you take back control of your life.  Effective fulfilled people do not spend their time doing what is most convenient and comfortable.  They have the courage to listen to their hearts and to do the wise thing.  This habit is what makes them great.”
