Thought of the Day

Always do your best…..keep refining your communication skills. We do ourselves a disservice if we don’t keep working on our communication with others. There have been special moments in my life when I have had the privilege of being in the company of communication masters. People who give you their undivided attention; who listen intently, to understand and to keep learning. Their minds are sharp,  and open to new information, because they manage the attachment they have to their own ideas. They gently share their perspective, and you know in those moments you are witness to their brilliance. They have embraced the ancient wisdom of when you learn, teach. When we are open to refining our skills, we don’t get stuck with limiting beliefs, like that’s just the way he/she is.  Or that’s just how our family rolls we’re not good at showing our feelings.

When we know something could be improved or refined, we owe it to ourselves to do better. Being heard in our fast paced society is a gift that we can all give to each other. It means being present putting away your phone, making eye contact and giving the person you are with, your undivided attention. Because people know when they only have half your attention; whether they are two, forty, or eighty…..and most importantly you know. You know that you’re not taking the time to listen to understand. You know that half of you is present and the other half is at the next meeting. So stay present today….give people your undivided attention, leave space between your meetings so you can regroup and be fresh for each new start. Be still, be patient, and cherish the now, life is a series of moments, don’t be in a hurry for them to end.

Iyanla Vanzant said “When two or more souls are blessed to be in the presence of each other, the greatest service they can offer each other is communication. Communication is more than just talking . Communication is interaction between souls that serves a higher purpose. Communication is a process of ingesting, digesting, assimilating, and utilizing the light, love, and wisdom of the souls that surround you. It is a process through which we learn to be authentic and to trust the wisdom of our own hearts. Communication is also a process in which we learn to trust as we learn that we can be trusted. It is a means of learning to hear others while we experience being heard.”
