Invest in others……..one of the marks of true greatness, is to develop greatness in others. There are two types of people in this world; those who come into a room and say “here I am” and those who come in and say “ah there you are” depending which camp you fall into, determines the affect and influence that you can have on others long term. Those who lead with ego are only in it for themselves and one day they will look over their shoulder and there will be no one there. So we need to become more aware of ourselves so that we can understand and manage our ego and the role it plays in how we engage the world.
While constructive feedback is something that we all need throughout our lives to adjust our course, and get back on track, destructive feedback is useless in motivating people to make change. Our agreements and values matter, we are either improving ourselves by continually learning, growing, and sharing that wisdom or we are judging, clinging to what we know, and ultimately trying to make ourselves feel better by chipping away at those around us. At the root of this kind of behaviour is envy, and envy drains the joy, satisfaction, and purpose out of living. Harsh criticism is the kiss of death in the courtship of achievement.
Leo Tolstoy said “Just imagine that the purpose of life is your happiness only – then life becomes a cruel and senseless thing. You have to embrace the wisdom of humanity. Your intellect and your heart tell you that the meaning of life is to serve the force that sent you into the world. Then life becomes a joy.”
