Always do your best…take the time to practice self care. Many of us have been raised to believe that self care is selfish. It’s not. The truth is that we become totally dedicated to the people, duties, responsibilities, and obligations in our lives; and we forget to take care of ourselves. We forget to take the time we need to just be present. We push ourselves every day, to take care of what we need to and in the process we leave pieces of ourselves scattered around. We allow our bodies to get way beyond tired…thinking that all we need is a good night’s sleep. But, it’s not your body that is tired, it is your soul. You have been pushing yourself to auto pilot for so long, that you forget how to just be. We lose our sense of self-worth and our value in the days, hours, and minutes that we give away to others.
So, you must take the time today to reflect, to set aside space to nurture your soul. You must practice self-care. As we learned when we fly; in an emergency we need to put the oxygen on our face first. A great metaphor…. Because what you do for the higher good, for your own well being is going to be good for everyone else. Practicing self-care is the ultimate act of self love. There is a catch though, it can only bring peace if you believe that you are worthy of the time. You must be willing to step away from the busy days and nights and take the time to be with your own company. Replenish your soul with cups of tea, food that nourishes, a book that fills your heart, and time and space away from your everyday world. Love is, above all else, the gift of oneself. Make sure you take care of that gift ….because loving yourself isn’t selfish. It’s a measure of how much you can love others. Compassion includes you. Namaste.
Iyanla Vanzant said “For 24 hours you are to live totally for yourself. You are to be self-absorbed, self-obsessed, and self-centred. We are not talking about bragging about yourself or trying to impress other people. In fact, you are not to talk to other people. For one entire day, talk to yourself. Compliment yourself. Encourage yourself. Correct yourself. Pump yourself up with descriptive words and visions of grandeur. Focus only on the things that you like and you want. Suspend all duties, responsibilities and obligations to everyone else. Take care of yourself. Take 24 hours to nurture yourself. Absorb yourself in yourself.”
