Thought for the Day ~ By Lisa Scott Life Coach

Always do your best……….in thought, word, and deed.  Some people try to feel better by tearing others down.   They compete to get better results by attacking your results; they build themselves up by making you feel worse, and they see life as a competition rather than a journey of self-development.  In fact, judging, labelling, and comparing yourself to others is a profound waste of energy.  This thinking halts progress and inhibits our ability to move forward in meaningful ways. it sets up a win-lose mentality that only compares but never creates.

If you find yourself keeping score with others then pay attention to your intentions.  When you compare your place and plan with that of others; you really are insisting on running someone else’s life. You have given yourself permission to have an opinion on what someone else is doing.  Success is simply a matter of doing what you do best and not worrying about what the other person is going to do.  You carry success or failure within yourself – it doesn’t depend on outside conditions.  Compare your place and plan with your goals, compete with yourself, and make it your goal to be a better you – than you were yesterday.

Stephen Covey said “Most people tend to think in terms of dichotomies; strong or weak, hardball or softball, win or lose.  But that kind of thinking is fundamentally flawed.  It’s based on power and position rather than on principle.  Win – win is based on the paradigm that there is plenty for everybody, that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of the success of others.  The win-win mentality is fundamental not just to business but to all of life’s relationships.  It is the ticket to entry into any human being’s heart.”
