Today’s Challenge: Remove judgement from your experience, meet people as you find them, and when someone doesn’t give you a smile, give them yours.
Always do your best………and that means letting go of judgement and labels. Ever notice how we label things as they happen. If it’s raining we declare its miserable out there…… if someone is driving differently than how we want them to…their stupid or worse. If the clerk doesn’t check us out fast enough….their slow. If our co-worker doesn’t agree with us…they just don’t get it. So it goes, all day long as you move from one experience to another you are labelling those experiences and the people attached to them. Inherent in the labelling exercise is judgement…and with that Karma. Karma is both action and the consequence of that action.
You see there is an energy to your judgement, because every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind. You know it’s true because on those days when you are tripping the light fantastic…as you smile, people beam back at you. As you engage them and thank them for your coffee, your order….they respond in kind. When you offer constructive observations that still allow a person to be who they are…they try even harder to refine their skills. So today, be mindful of how often you label…..how frequently your energy changes because you allow little things to get under your skin….and most importantly remember that the choices you make today will fuel your future. The only thing you hated when you were two…..was your nap. So find that place of innocence and love….and treat people that way….your world will be a magical.
Don Miguel Ruiz Jr. said “Every time you label something, a tree, a grocery store clerk, a good idea, you’ve created an image, an abstracted representation, of what that thing is rather than experiencing it directly. You stop seeing the unique expression of this tree or that individual person. Whenever you classify things as good or bad, you have stopped looking at it with an open mind. This kind of thinking can cause you to see and treat people as objects or ideas rather than living, breathing human beings, and you subtly judge them accordingly. This is how knowledge, in the form of your own labels and filters, keeps you from seeing reality as it is now. “
