Thought for the Day ~ To Change, you have to be Willing to Change

Always do your best……practice mindfulness every day.  To do so you have to be committed to waking up and living in harmony with yourself.  You have to love yourself enough to make the changes in your life that you know you must.  We sometimes live in parallel worlds. In that we live one way, while our soul knows that we need to be living another way in order to honour and love ourselves. In essence mindfulness is the slowing down of the mind so that we can contemplate and access the multiple choices that we have before us.  We can make decisions and stick with them.  We can keep our commitments and build our capacity for generosity.

Most of us have grown up in a world that seeks to control nature and all of mankind…….while mindfulness reminds us that we are an intimate part of nature and that living in harmony with our world is infinitely better than seeking to control it. The place we all have to start from is the place of self-love.  We must learn to love ourselves enough to give ourselves the best possible life that we can……taking the easy road, sacrificing our lives for others, pushing through daily exhaustion are the ways we deny self.  They are the ways we relegate our own importance to the bottom of the to do list.  Today, love yourself enough to make yourself a priority.  What will you do today in the name of self -love?  Loving kindness towards ourselves is the ultimate path to healing.

John Kabat-Zinn said “Generosity is another quality which, like patience, letting go, non-judging, and trust, provides a solid foundation for mindfulness practice.  You might experiment with using the cultivation of generosity as a vehicle for deep self-observation and  inquiry as well as an exercise in giving. A good place to start is with yourself.  See if you can give yourself gifts that may be true blessings, such as self-acceptance, or some time each day with no purpose.  Practice feeling deserving enough to accept these gifts without obligation….to simply receive from yourself and from the universe.”
